We’ve been there

We are seasoned software engineers with years of experience designing systems, leading teams, and shipping production software at scale. And yet, like many of you, we spent sleepless nights grinding through LeetCode problems and HackerRank challenges just to prove ourselves in technical interviews — a process that has very little to do with the actual work of a senior engineer.

The modern coding interview is broken. It asks experienced architects and tech leads to solve competitive-programming puzzles under a 40-minute clock — a format that was never designed to measure engineering judgment, system thinking, or the ability to deliver real value. Meanwhile, the same algorithmic tasks that once required human ingenuity are now handled routinely by AI. Novel, genuinely hard problems — the ones that define great engineering — rarely fit inside a timed coding screen at all.

Senior developers have better things to do with their mental bandwidth: thinking about architectural trade-offs, mentoring teams, designing for scale and resilience. Wasting weeks memorizing graph traversal patterns for an interview that judges you on whether you recalled the exact syntax for a min-heap is, frankly, a poor use of anyone’s time.

Why we built OffscreenAI

OffscreenAI exists because we refused to accept that the only path through a broken process is to out-grind everyone else.
